Description

This unit aims to introduce basic fundamentals of fluid mechanics and heat transfer. It includes the properties of fluids, ideal flow and flow measurement, laminar and turbulent flow, boundary layer development and pipe flow, and the principles of heat conduction and convection. Material is illustrated using problems associated with chemical-engineering practice. Formal lectures cover main material and include sample problems and model answers. Four formative laboratory sessions provided by staff in the Diamond Teaching Building, will complement the lectures. A formative mock exam will be conducted towards the end of the course to aid preparation for the formal assessment.
